Cornell Village was designed in accordance with the principles of New Urbanism. The Markham community comprises mostly medium density housing, but also includes low density housing with rear lanes. To encourage an urban lifestyle, the community was designed around central amenities including parks, a village centre with retail, and an elementary school. Cornell Village was a progressive type of development for the City of Markham and has set the precedent for New Urbanist design in Ontario.
