NAK Design Strategies was acquired by the Town of Cochrane to implement tourist and historic friendly elements to the towns four block epicentre. Our approach to the design was to incorporate low impact design elements, increase pedestrian friendly thoroughfares and create a sense of place through historic design elements. Planting and benches encourage visitors to the area to stay and enjoy many of the tourist attractions one of which is the famous MacKay’s Ice Cream. Major and Minor entry features create a strong sense of place welcoming you to the historic downtown, setting it apart from the newly developed boulevards surrounding the space. Through the installation of a high impact art feature NAK was able to pay tribute to five major historic elements: Men of Vision, Senator Cochrane, Pioneer Women, Native American History and the Railroad which are critical in ensuring visitors and residence understand the Town’s strong heritage.
This project is currently mid construction and is anticipated to be completed in summer of 2017.
