DESIGN INTENT
Nestled in one of Toronto’s most diverse and underserved neighbourhoods, the redeveloped playground transformed a well-used community green space into a fully accessible, inclusive destination for play and gathering. The design centres on equity and everyday delight: a colourful, whimsical play structure anchors the space, while a generous shade structure and a mix of lounge chairs, benches, and café-style tables invite caregivers, teens, and older adults to linger comfortably.
Barrier-free pathways, AODA-compliant surfacing, and universally accessible play elements ensure children of all abilities can explore safely and independently. Durable materials and low-maintenance plantings were selected for longevity, with bold colours and playful forms celebrating Flemingdon’s vibrant cultural fabric. Together, these moves deliver an everyday park upgrade that feels joyful, welcoming, and distinctly local.
