Design Intent

In 2015, Garden Square underwent a revitalization which included the addition of a 24’ x 14’ LED screen. This new feature is now used to feature emerging artists, family-friendly movie nights, live music, and learning demonstrations. Since this is the heart of Brampton, it was an important goal that this revitalization opened up the square to more opportunities for gathering. The space encourages Bramptonians to enjoy local events, businesses, and to experience the creativity in the city. Garden Square is a vibrant space showcasing the diversity of Brampton where people can relax and enjoy the outdoors.

The Garden Square Revitalization is the first of three parts of the Downtown Brampton Revitalization initiatives. The re-design of the Square has involved two main components: public consultation and preliminary design. NAK has acted as the project manager for both components of this project. The main objective of the Garden Square Revitalization is to create a programmable, destination within Brampton.

The screen instillation has enhanced the public space to create a multi-use gathering area for those in the community through cultural programs, events, and other community-focused activities. Specifically, Garden Square hosts the City of Brampton’s annual National Indigenous Peoples Day, Pride in the Square, New Year’s Eve Concert, and community events and celebrations throughout the year.
