Design Intent

Inspired by the overall project development in Regent Park the landscape design vision was centered on bringing people together. In a community with such a wide variety of ethnicity and background, we see a mosaic of people and activities coming together in a landscape that will reflect multi-culturalism.

Our streetscape design was inspired by the rich tapestry of cultures that makes up Regent Park. We see connectivity in the landscape as a place of bringing people together, connecting people and their environment. To promote a social and healthy well-being the landscape design connects the community and encourage social interaction. From the outside of the building, the landscape expresses the notion of an urban green with trees and plant material that highlight spatial effects with seasonal colour. Planters with seatwalls encourage gathering and meeting places along the public realm while custom bike rack and lighting along Parliament will highlight the artisan community of the city.

Many factors affect the landscape design including site context, climate change, social factors, integration with architecture, signage, and place-making opportunities. For the amenity terrace, we wanted the landscape to be an extension of life and activities of the interior of the building. It was based on an expression of life spilling out onto the terrace, hence the seemingly informal and organic organization of landscape elements (planters, seats, and trellis) that flows out of the building.
