Design Intent

Auto Complex is located in southern Vaughan, just north-west of the Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue West intersection that shares a border with the City of Toronto and the City of Markham. The Yonge-Steeles area can be characterized by its large low-rise retail and surface parking, which are typical of auto-oriented, suburban development. Much of the area that fronts along Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue West, two major arterial roads, provides an important opportunity to support intensification and redevelopment.

This transit-oriented project proposes mixed-use, medium and high-density land uses which will bring highly sought after housing and retail and community spaces to this thriving community. With walking distance to public transit as well as the planned Steeles Subway Station and Clark Subway Station, this redevelopment will connect to both Downtown Toronto and the York Region.

From a holistic view, NAK’s proposed landscape design aims to emulate the look and feel of the architecture, adding to the unique sense of place of Auto Complex.  The whole site will be connected through the open space network, where people will be able to meander and flow through intuitively. Throughout the development, roof top amenities are proposed as private open spaces for the residents. One of the most valuable features of utilizing green roof infrastructure is that it generates a wide range of social, wellness and mental health, and environmental benefits.

The Auto Complex redevelopment will deliver an exciting and thoughtful public realm, supporting healthy living through a mix of uses that encourage residents to be physically active and socially engaged.  In order to achieve a sustainable community vision, the redevelopment shall be compact and shall provide a range of mobility options.
