DESIGN INTENT
Alton Village, located in north Burlington, Ontario, is a 3,000 acre master-planned community designed around principles of environmental integration, connectivity, and livability. The vision for the community emphasizes pedestrian-friendly, transit-supportive development that weaves natural systems into the urban fabric. Existing ecological features, such as Bronte Creek and its tributary corridors, form the backbone of the open space system, complemented by parks, trails, and stormwater management areas designed as multifunctional green infrastructure. These naturalized spaces not only support biodiversity but also enhance community resilience while providing residents with accessible recreation and everyday connections to nature.
The community is organized around a hierarchy of streets and land uses that balance low- to medium-density residential areas with mixed-use nodes and employment lands along major corridors. Streetscapes and gateway features reinforce a sense of place, while trail networks and walkable public spaces link neighborhoods to schools, commercial areas, and natural amenities. Together, these strategies establish Alton Village as a model suburban development where landscape architecture plays a central role – integrating ecological preservation, functional infrastructure, and community identity into a cohesive and sustainable master plan.
