Design Intent

Thornbury Acres is located just two hours north of Toronto within the Town of The Blue Mountains in Grey County, Ontario. Defined by the Nottawasaga Bay and the sloping topography of the mountains, this area provides a natural escape from the busy city life. Within close proximity, are various attractions, from ski clubs, golf courses, and wineries, it attracts visitors year-round and has become one of the most sought-after destinations in Ontario. With this and easy access to regional roads and highways, Thornbury Acres is well-positioned to become an interactive, one-of-a-kind community that showcases and accentuates the area’s natural beauty and picturesque landscapes.

NAK conducted community visioning, site planning and landscape visioning for the Thornbury Acres community.
Through the creation of naturalized buffers, low-impact development systems and practices, community agriculture initiatives, and the preservation of the site’s woodlots, forests, and natural topography, sustainability will be at the core of Thornbury Acres whereby it will serve as a unique agricultural co-operative with thirty seven homesteads and an extensive trail network.
